Life Just “Lifing”

Good life

I was sitting down talking to some of my buddies a couple of days ago. We were hanging out in my new studio after doing some “remodeling.” We spent the night talking about everything in life. It is interesting to me because most of my buddies are immigrants or children of immigrants just like me.

Personally, I kinda feel like a double immigrant, because my mom’s from Jamaica and I went to school in Alaska. It’s kinda of like a different country up there.  For me as just a normal dude from Alaska, being an entrepreneur in the city of Philadelphia is kinda mind blowing.

I know a lot of people can relate to my story. In fact, I’m almost positive because you are reading this, that you’ve probably done the following yourself. I tried a lot of different jobs, but I always felt like I just wasn’t getting what I needed in terms of fulfillment.  I just couldn’t figure it out, but what I kept thinking to myself is that I need to make more money.

It Was Not About The Money

Everyone has their thing that they believe will make them eternally happy.  For some, it’s fame, some money, others time. Depending on who you are, the value you place on each is variable. For me it was money. I would say to myself. As soon as I have more money I’ll be happy.

That all changed when I started training people that had the millions I was looking for. These people had it all (or at least all I’d be happy with) and they somehow were still unhappy. Some of them complained about how much they have to work, how little they’d see their kids, or even the health of a family member.

It was then I realized that it was never about the money. It’s actually all about balance.

One thing I want to caution you about. Balance is different for everyone. So if you find someone telling you exactly how much of anything you should have in your life, reconsider their advice. There is never any good in being too extreme in your practices. Then you aren’t living an authentic life.

It’s so complicated, but yet so simple. I’ve heard over the years how people search far and wide for the meaning of life and they find it when they come back home to self-discovery. I have to admit that I didn’t follow that belief at first, but the further I explore on this journey, the more I realize that it involves a lot of playful discovery.

I’d like you to consider this before we part ways today. Whatever you believe you need to be happy is wrong. There is nothing outside of yourself that can make you happy. It is when you understand that life simply happens that you find genuine enjoyment in that each experience that comes. Life will “life” with or without your approval, so it’s just better to approve, appreciate, and move on.

P.S.  Once you stop expecting and simply start being open the world changes drastically. At least that’s what it did for me. I realized that when you have money it doesn’t really change you. It just exposes you and if you’re aren’t happy, it just amplifies it. I’ve Seen it hundreds of times and I’m seeing it in myself as well as I begin to become more aware. Something that you might want to think about for yourself as well. If you’d like to chat about it and how you can stop worrying and start winning, just email me here and I’ll do my best to get back to you soon. Talk soon…

Authenticity

Authenticity, it’s kinda like one of those

Mythical type words right?

Where like everyone has heard of it

Tried to do it, but only a few succeed in it.

Why? Well that’s exactly it…

It’s because often people are trying so

Hard to figure out how, or what, that

They forget why.

It’s simple, if you know why you’re

Doing something, the how or what

Becomes relatively unimportant

And usually falls into place somewhere

Along the line.

Let’s take television in general.

A successful show starts with why.

Seinfeld, for instance was a show

About quite literally, nothing.

They even said it in their advertising.

Of course if it was actually about

Nothing it would have been a

Blank screen for 30 minutes every

Thursday at 9PM.

On the surface it was about nothing

But it became popular because it

Was a show that gave us a different

Perspective on our own lives.

It wasn’t meant to be a scripted comedy

About ultra successful people or about

A down and out character that just so

Happen to have a beautiful wife and kids

Like every other show at the time. It

Innovated in being the precursor to modern

Reality TV with it’s seemingly non-scripted

Anecdotes and for it’s time, superfluous

Situations.

So how does a show about nothing apply

To your authenticity?

Well the fact that it was about nothing

Should give you a clue into how powerful

It is to start with a solid sense of why

You are doing something.

They wanted to create a show that was

Different from all the others. They

Weren’t concerned so much with

How much money they made (at first)

They just wanted to make a show that

Was different, but yet still creative.

You can do the same in your life.

You don’t have to do what everyone

Else is doing just because they seem

To be successful.

Maybe you are not supposed to be a

Doctor, or a lawyer. And maybe

Pursuing that will actually make you

Less money and create less happiness

Over your lifetime than if you picked

Something that was more suited for

Your authentic self.

What’s important is to, before you

Undertake any activity or try to

Think about what the results will be

Of your actions; try to first think about

Why you are doing what you are doing.

Money is not a good enough motivator

After awhile to get you out of bed in the

Morning, day after day for a job you hate.

Praise, isn’t enough if you simply hoping

To get more praise for doing something

That feels contrived.

If you are chasing money, or praise you’re

Actually just chasing results. If you are

Looking to inspire and build a framework

In which people can truly see you are

Different and feel compelled to follow

Your lead, you must first start with “WHY”

P.S. Sometimes these posts get away from

Me and I apologize for that. It’s just that

I get so passionate about helping others

Stop living that zombie life where they

Are simply going through the motions.

There are many reasons why I personally

Do this, but I would say that for the most

Part it’s because I believe that we have

Been taught the wrong thing for so long

And many don’t even realize that they

Have lost hope in creating a living a life

That is authentic and gives them fulfillment.

If you suspect that may be you, I would

Like you to consider joining the conversation

With me and a few of my friends in my

Private Facebook group Project SELFFY.

There we talk about what drives us and how

We can all make an impact on the world

It’s TOO Big

Get your mind outta the gutter I’m talking about

Your muscles here…

Working out is great, but wouldn’t it be cool

To get a tip on how to get strong from a (not so)

Overly buff, former world champion powerlifter?

Yeah, as you may or may not know, I won the

World champion in the power curl a few years back.

So I’ve got a tip for you on how to increase your

Bicep strength without making you look like

Arms are the only thing you train…

As many people already know, if you wanna

Build your biceps, you do curls.

But this awesome way of curling is a nice variation

That helped me build a lot of strength without

Overloading the muscle so much that it starts to bulk.

There’s more science to this, but this isn’t

A scientific journal.

So this magic trick…what is it???

In a word, negatives…

To do it with a curl is to curl up fast

And let it down as slowly as you can.

You’ll see that after 5 reps of going down

5 seconds at a time, you’re arms’ll be spent!

I had planned to write more about this

But I’m outta time.
