Happiness Formula

Oooohhh…I’m getting chills thinking about

This month because I have never had

It go down (or up) like this

This month isn’t even half way over and it’s

Already been filled with quite a few life changing

Events for more than a few people

(Rip Charlie Murphy…)

The first day of April I was in a

Georgia hospital waiting as granny bear

Struggled to get back what little

Strength she had before suffering her

Second stroke in as many weeks.

It was tough to see that, I admit, but

I felt so much love in the room as

I held her hand and then proceeded to…

Arm wrestler her good arm*

Anyway, fast forward a few weeks

I have a client that invites me over

To my first Seder in almost a decade

The food, was delicious and it was good

To spend some time with loving people

Today was the icing on the cake however.

After talking about how much of a good time

I had at the Seder, another client offered

To have me join them on a vacation trip.

(Of course I’m going!)

It all seems so real like it’s everyday life

But I can’t really say this generosity is

Something that I experience everyday.

You know, there’s is definitely something

That we can take from this and it’s probably

Not what you think…

Yeah, Imma keep going for a sec so stay with me

You see, nothing in life is free. Nothing!

Whenever you spend resources, be they money

Or time, or something of similar value

You end up either investing in yourself or

Investing in something or someone else.

Nothing in this world is ever wasted.

Simply repurposed.

Now, I’m not gonna say the following can

Be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt

But I want you to honestly think about it

For yourself before you answer.

Could it be that the good you do in the world

Comes back with the intention that you put into it?

What am I saying? Well let’s break it down…

I was just talking about how nothing is free and

How it is important to understand the value you

Put into your own time and energy spent.

In the beginning of this month, I dropped everything

And drove down to see my grandmother (granny bear)

To see if there was anything I could do.

I don’t want it to sound like I’m bragging, because

That’s is the furthest thing from my mind.

I’m just trying to make the point that out of love

I made a sacrifice of time and money.

Some people say they sacrifice this and that but

Never see any real returns on their investment

But I’m beginning to realize as this is occurring more

And more frequently in my own life that

It’s not a matter of how much you do

It’s a matter of how much you love

^^^^^ Read that again broham

I’d have you consider that love is a resource

And just like any other resource, there are

Ways to detect counterfeits.

If the love you are putting into something

Isn’t real, you aren’t going to get the full

Benefits you deserve from your life.

I know it’s hard bro.

It’s so so so hard to get this.

It took me years and yet I still wonder

Sometimes if it’s something else, but time

After time it’s proven to be the real deal.

And here’s the formula:

Love + y = Happiness

Find “Y” and solve for happiness.

*Note: granny bear is now sitting up

And is moving both sides of her body

Thank you for all your love, support, and prayers!

Jerry “equation solved” Washington

P.S. Pretty nifty right? I think that in the future we

Might actually find that a similar equation actually

Exists and we control more about our world that

We currently realize.

We used to think the world was flat, wars were

Started by Gods, and that we could cure diseases

With leeches. What will be saying about our

Current way of thinking in 100 years? In my

Private Facebook group Project SELFFY we

Talk about this type of thinking and where

We might be going next. If you would like to

Is Google Trying To Kill Us?

Hey I’m back!

If you haven’t been tuned in

I just finished an impromptu trip

Down to my birth state of GA.

Grandma bear isn’t doing so well

So I drove down  this weekend

And brought a few reinforcements

NE hoo, As me and sissy bear went

Looking for food around the hospital

We had the most interesting experience

After asking Google for a restaurant

That we could both agree on

It pulled up none other than

Ms. Pacman?!?

Apparently there’s an update

That gives you the opportunity

To use your current location as

The game board…

Pretty nifty right?!

Google is trying to kill us man!

Why?  Well if my millennial sister

Is like any other millennial that has the

Tendency to get distracted while driving

Then we’re all in a ton of trouble!

I joke, but I’d be willing to bet that

This probably is a real concern for some.

As you go through life experiences however,

You find that you can’t be so worried about

Those things that aren’t in your control.

In fact, I think back to all my challenges

I’ve had in life and I while I was sitting there

Holding my grandmother’s hand, they all

Seemed insignificant.

It’s like everything seems so serious and final

Until you come across something as serious

And as final as the real possibility of death.

It actually reminds me of this saying, I don’t

Remember who actually coined the term

But it goes something like: “You can tell the

Size of someone’s character, by the size of their

So what’s bugging you broham?

Are you afraid to step up because you think

You’re gonna get hurt?

Well, I got news for you, unless it’s death

It’s nothing more than another experience

That you can learn and recover from.

I’m not saying that you should be reckless

But you might want to be honest with yourself

About how much your happiness is related to

Your ability to see challenges and obstacles

In EVERY PART OF LIFE and find a way to

Overcome them.

So are THEY trying to kill you?

Here’s the best answer to that question

It’s an actual quote by Billy Shakespeare:

Cowards die many times before their deaths;

The valiant never taste of death but once”

Jerry “die once, live forever” Washington

P.S. There is a way to live forever and it has

Nothing to do with your vitality. If you have the

Courage to do what is right by others and you

Actively challenge yourself to be the best you can

In all facets of life, believe me, you will live a very

Long time not only in the physical form, but in the

Hearts and minds of others that are here long after

You are gone. More on that tomorrow (maybe).

Talk Soon…

Lies, Lies, Lies!

So this week has been a wild one.

I’ve had a lot of fun with a lot of

Friends and family and even got

A little closer to a few key milestones

That I set for myself this year.

But I’ve also had a huge set back

Grandma bear is not doing well

And it’s looking like we are

Nearing the end of her winter years

And we will have to soon

Have to say goodbye.

But that’s not what I wanted to

Talk about today. In interest of

Trying to stay on topic

I want us to keep running with

This theory of the mind that

We’ve had this week.

Yesterday, I told you about how

I (kinda) remembered how my

Bike got stolen out of my car.

You see memory is a funny thing.

It’s a well known fact in the

Scientific community that

Your memory changes every time you

Recall something from your past.

The explanation for why that happens

Is a little too complex to explain today

But let’s just say that emotions play

A huge part in what we remember about

Our past and what potential we believe

Is possible for our future.

So the question remains…

Is our brain lying to us?

Well in a word yes, but for very good reason

In fact, it’s happening all the time, but what’s

Important is to find that balance of

Biology and objectivism that will help you

To develop your knowledge, creativity, and focus

That leads to the good life.

If you think about it, it’s kinduvamazing

That our brain can perform so many functions

And fast to boot.

I don’t remember exactly how many it is,

Something like 144,000 gigabytes of info

A second or some astronomical number

But either way it’s nothing short of

Phenomenal how we can do so much

With that wrinkled gooey mess.

Because there is so much we have to process

Our mind sometimes plays tricks on us and

Tells us stories. We begin to believe that

Those stories are true and then that story

Gets replayed over and over in our head.

I’ve been a victim of that myself.

But I recently found that you can simply

Change your story by changing your focus.

You see broham, I had been making the mistake

Of focusing on the wrong thing, according to

Mindfulness guru Shauna Shapiro.

I like, most people think about things I

Want to fix in my life, things that made me

Feel shame and anxiety.

During a recent meditation session what

She said suddenly just clicked with me.

By focusing on those things that made me

Feel shame I was growing my shame and

Anxiety in general.

It took me a while to get this, but I finally

Realized that when you focus your attention

With kindness and with complete compassion

You begin to feel the release of anxiety and shame

And those things you wanted to fix

Become rather things that need your love and kind

So what are you ashamed of?

What lies are you telling yourself?

The biggest lie that many people tell themselves

Is that they are okay when they are clearly not.

I would have you consider that what you practice

Is what you strengthen.

Practice compassion and kindness

And watch as it develops first within you

And evolves to affect every aspect of life.

P.S. I’ve started a group that practices this same

Compassion and kind attention that has

Been helping people live the good life through

Understanding and awareness of their thoughts
