Is The Passion Gone?

Everyone has a passion. For instance, you might have taken a job, because you were passionate about having a roof over your head and food to eat, but hey whatever….

The issue is, if your passion is more than having food to eat, the desire to stick to it can come and go. If you’re familiar with Simon Sinek’s work, you’ll know that sometimes the “why” you originally had can easily be transformed into “what” with just a few outside influences.

So is the answer to simply stop pursuing your passion?

Yes…and no…

You see, I’ve read from many books on sociology and from my experience with hundreds, if not thousands of entrepreneurs and employees as personal training clients, that pursuing your passion is the easiest way to burn yourself out. Think about this: Mother Theresa’s passion was to help the less fortunate, however around the time of her death, she was questioning the existence of God and was clinically depressed.

It’s not enough to pursue your passion. There is more, oh…so much more my feathered friend, I’m not gonna have time to show it all to you today, but before you go about your day I want you to ponder something.

If instead of pursuing your passion, what if you pursued something that simply made you CURIOUS?

Just a thought.

P.S. I was always curious as a kid, that’s why I always experimented and asked questions. But it didn’t stop in childhood, you should never stop learning. Warren Buffett is 80 something years old and he says he actively pursues learning something every day. In fact he says that what he’s learned now has helped him execute deals that he wouldn’t have otherwise known how to do a decade ago. Ne hoo, gotta get to painting. Talk soon…

The “Fourth” Is With You

Oh my God, my back!!! I remember it vividly. It was 2014 and I had just gotten up out of bed after a long night’s rest that was induced by a certain female friend that was laying next to me.

I have these weird thing where I ALWAYS sneeze at least 5 times when I wake up. This time I wasn’t quite ready and when I sneezed I turned so I wouldn’t sneeze on her and when I turned, I couldn’t turn back. I was frozen…back thrown

Turns out there are millions of people in America that have this or something similar happen to them everyday. Well, I’m one to say and I’m sure you’ll agree, that there has to be a way we can prevent this.

It seems like if you’re active you have a bad back and if you spend your time doing nothing, you still suffer the same fate. So without further adieu, here are a few things you are doing to yourself to screw up your back and of course, a few ways to prevent it.

Saddle up Sally…

1.  Stay out of saddles- Just kidding, but seriously though, the way you sit or what you are sitting on is probably the main culprit in killing your back.

Solution: Sit in a chair that can keep you up right for the most part. If your chair leans back then sit forward on it. If you are sitting on a uber comfortable chair, chances are, unless you spent serious money on it, you’re doing yourself a disservice.

2. Keep your head up- Man you don’t know how many people complain about neck, shoulder, upper back pain, and headaches when I’m at the chiropractor. Ok…maybe you can guess…it’s everyone!! The main reason? Well, you can tell just by watching them text. When you look down to text you put up to 42 lbs(!) of pressure on your neck and shoulders.

Solution: ALWAYS keep your cell phone, tablet, or whatever communication device your using, at eye level. It will help you keep your spine aligned and will prevent all that pressure from building up and causing you later discomfort.

3. Sleep on it- Your back that is. Let’s think about this for a second. When you sleep on your stomach, you put your head to the side. Imagine if you were to walk around for 6-8 hours with your head to the side. It’d hurt your neck right? Yup! And you’ll find the same issue if you were to lay on your side. Most end up curled up with their back rounded.

Solution: Lay on your back. It may not be the most comfortable at first, but get used to it, because it’s better then spending the whole day complaining about how you slept…

And last but not least…

4. Work it out- Many people suffer from back issues because of a weak core. They don’t have enough core strength to keep them upright. Whether you are sitting or standing, you should keep you head over shoulders.

Solution: Strengthen your core with crunches and back extensions. If that’s too much for you, just start with isometric contractions where you sit and flex your back and abs.

Welp, that’s all I got for ya. Of course, there are plenty more ways and I talk about them here in my private Facebook group Project SELFFY Philadelphia. Want to know more? Just click the link.

One (More) Fitness Tip…

Holy socks Batman!

My last fitness tip gotta huge response.

I guess you just want me to shut-up and

Give you the goods every once inna while, eh?

Fine hmmmppp lol!

No I get it, sometimes you just want answers.

What can I do to get rid of THIS??

What’s the best ab exercise?

How many grams of protein should you eat?

Those are all important questions, but I think

The most important aspect of fitness is too often

Overlooked by the average fitness professional.

What am I talking about?

SLEEP!

You know you need it, yet you still don’t get enough

I had a problem with this when I first started training

I would stay up late and get up early for work.

Thinking that I was hustling, but really I was only

Hurting myself.

I’m not going to go into all the physical reasons

You need sleep, (if you’re interested, click here)

But I will outline a few that you may or may not have

Thought about while staying up to watch

Just one last episode” on Netflix

1. Hunger You ever get hungry and crave a late night snack

Well that’s your body searching for dopamine to keep it awake.

Your body also releases higher levels of insulin, which tell your

Body to store the food as fat. Moral: Don’t eat when you’re tired

2. Moodiness When you lack sleep, your brain cannot renew

So it goes into panic and thinks something is wrong and releases

The stress hormone, cortisol. This is the same stuff your body

Releases during road rage and when someone eats your snack

Out the company fridge.

3. What Comes After 2?? You also get dumber as you deprive

Yourself of those dancing sugar plum fairies from your dreams.

When you sleep, your brain creates new neural pathways that

Accommodate for what you learned that day. No sleep, no new

Pathways, no way to keep knowledge in. All that adds up to

Amount to you needing to write a lot of stuff down.

Well speaking of sleep, it’s time for me to escape to dreamland

P.S. I forgot to mention the absolute worst part bout

Not getting enough sleep.

Everyone telling you that you look tired all day.

I mean seriously, seriously. I look tired?

How about YOU look like you should keep your

Observations to yourself.

Ha! Looks like I need to get some sleep.
