Motivation? Maybe Just Stick To Master…

motivation or something else

Motivation. Seriously, everybody is shouting from the rooftops that they have it.  The problem is though, that those very people shouting their motivation are often (relatively) speaking. Seriously, how motivated could someone actually be if the majority of their time is spent trying to convince the world of their level of motivation?

You see, the problem here isn’t motivation, it’s attitude. Anyone, can jump up and down and scream “look at me, I’m motivated.” The key for you though is not to try to convince others of your motivation. It’s better to first try to convince yourself.

But let me back up for a second, I tend to jump around sometimes and get a little side tracked, but bear with me. I’m gonna try to lay this out in an organized manner.

Your Attitude Sucks, Change It Don't cry, don't wish, do you.

<—-See pictures and ^^^^ subheadings…getting a little fancy here. But I digress. Most people are starting backward when they get up in the morning. They open their eyes after they’ve hit snooze a few times and then they –if they haven’t hit snooze too many times– think about what their life is like right now, but base it all on the past. They think about how their boss pisses them off, or the bills that they have to pay, the weight they have to lose, and so on and so forth. You know what I’m talking about. All that stuff that makes you NOT want to get out of the bed in the morning.

Try this one on for size. Eckhart Tolle wrote in his book The Power of Now about how the future is an illusion because it hasn’t happened, but so is your past. Your past is also an illusion because even though it did exist, the fact still remains that all that really exist now is a memory. Even what you did 5 seconds ago…straight memories yo. Illusions in your mind.

So where am I getting with all this new agey mumbo jumbo? What do illusions have to do with your attitude? Well my feathered friend, if you aren’t paying attention to RIGHT NOW then you are living in an illusion.  And living in an illusion, for all intents and purposes, is what most would define as insanity, to put it bluntly.

What is most important is what is happening right…NOW…NOW……….NOW…NOW. The point here is that in every moment you have a choice. You can live the world of insanity (which most do, so don’t feel bad) or Now.

So then how do you change the attitude? You start by first being able to focus your mind so that it doesn’t follow every single thought down a thought train. So one way to stop that is to focus on the present. Setting aside some time to meditate is a great way to get practice in staying present to each moment without wandering. And remember, meditation doesn’t necessarily have to be some ritual. You don’t have to lose motivation over a lack of sagebrush in the house. Just check out this method of easy and effective meditation that I use consistently.

Be Strong And Support Others

The very definition of being strong is to be able to lift heavy things up that others normally couldn’t lift or carry. Some do it with weights, some with money, others emotions, but we all have someone we know that is strong in some area or another and could really help others. On the other hand, it’s often hard to recognize strengths when you are paralyzed by fear.

People are born innocent. We have no hopes, no aspirations, no fears. Nothing, just innocence. Somehow along the way, however, we develop the hopes of doing something grand, and we develop fears. We aspire to be great and then we shoot ourselves down. We shoot each other down. It becomes a perpetual cycle because people have no idea what means to truly be strong.

Now I’m not saying to go out and become and saint and help others at the expense of your own well-being. I mean honestly, if that gets you off, be my guest, but I’m gonna tell you this: the key to building up a solid foundation is to first build yourself up. If your goal is to really have a lasting impact and help others, it can’t be so it can cover up an insecurity that you may have about something else. Like, think of it as help because it feels good, not because you’re trying to cover up something else that feels bad.

It really starts with how you choose to frame the world and what type of language you use in it. For instance, if you constantly see the world as a struggle, you are going to use language that reflects that and that subsequently (nice word) leads you to subconsciously commit to actions that would make your perception accurate.

In essence, if you think weak, you will be weak. But on top of that, you never truly help others. Your attention instead of engaging in adapting to an environment (like humans have done for hundreds of thousands of years) is always fixated on how a very small fraction of the universe (you) benefits from each interaction. Every (inter)action, no matter how seemingly powerful, will be transparent as people will see the real motivation for your actions. So in other words, practicing authenticity (honesty) gives you strength to be supportive of someone other than yourself.

Motivation or Master…Looking like a fool with your pants on the ground

Or maybe motivation for masterba…ok never mind. But get this brozilla, sometimes you just don’t feel like it. A lot of people beat themselves up over it. Stop *ahem* beating yourself and maybe join yourself….Ok, that was just weird…

Let’s imagine for a moment, a castle. At the base of the castle, is your attitude. It’s the foundation you build your life on. If that foundation is good, then you can start putting some pretty cool stuff on it. Eventually, that stuff becomes motivation.

Motivation is good, it can help you get stuff done. But that’s not where it stops. Nope, not even. From there you continue building your motivation till it becomes inspiration. Now you go out and crush it and you inspire others to do it as well. Not, because they see you running your head through the walls. It’s because they see WHY you are running your head through the wall and they want to do it with you because they believe in you.

The best way to start the path to motivation is to start the path to health. And I’m not talking about losing 5 pounds in five days. Or the latest cleanse, or tablets, or whatever the hell people are trying to peddle as “healthy lifestyles” these days.

What I’m talking about here is Family, Fitness, Fun, and Fulfillment. Consider practicing making that your frame for your future thoughts. This will lead to actions that ensure that you will ALWAYS be motivated.

P.S. I’ve been thinking about motivation lately. I’ve offered a discussion to my Philadelphia group and we will be meeting at my training studio in Bala Cynwyd. If you’re interested and in the area, I’d love for you to stop by.  Just shoot me a message here by clicking this link. Talk soon…

Is The Passion Gone?

Everyone has a passion. For instance, you might have taken a job, because you were passionate about having a roof over your head and food to eat, but hey whatever….

The issue is, if your passion is more than having food to eat, the desire to stick to it can come and go. If you’re familiar with Simon Sinek’s work, you’ll know that sometimes the “why” you originally had can easily be transformed into “what” with just a few outside influences.

So is the answer to simply stop pursuing your passion?

Yes…and no…

You see, I’ve read from many books on sociology and from my experience with hundreds, if not thousands of entrepreneurs and employees as personal training clients, that pursuing your passion is the easiest way to burn yourself out. Think about this: Mother Theresa’s passion was to help the less fortunate, however around the time of her death, she was questioning the existence of God and was clinically depressed.

It’s not enough to pursue your passion. There is more, oh…so much more my feathered friend, I’m not gonna have time to show it all to you today, but before you go about your day I want you to ponder something.

If instead of pursuing your passion, what if you pursued something that simply made you CURIOUS?

Just a thought.

P.S. I was always curious as a kid, that’s why I always experimented and asked questions. But it didn’t stop in childhood, you should never stop learning. Warren Buffett is 80 something years old and he says he actively pursues learning something every day. In fact he says that what he’s learned now has helped him execute deals that he wouldn’t have otherwise known how to do a decade ago. Ne hoo, gotta get to painting. Talk soon…

Work With Me 4 Free (Kinda)

It isn’t every day that I reach a milestone, so I kinda wanna celebrate. Nothing really special, it’s just that I’ve been working with my inner circle for two years now and I’ve been writing daily emails for them ever since (subscribe here). I’m pretty excited though so I wanted to spread the love with you.

If you are in the Philadelphia area you’re in luck. (If not, tell a friend that’s here) I’m offering my services for free.

You see, I’ve written so many emails and so many blogs that have helped people in their lives, I’ve gotten kind of addicted to helping people. And I want to really help people, not because I’m trying to get rich off of them, it’s because I really care about the state of our world.

I’m gonna keep this positive today, but the way I see it, for every fake news article, for every advertisement that says you “NEED” this or you “HAVE TO HAVE” that, I want to help someone realize that the answer to fulfillment does not lie in those things. In fact, I’ve learned over the past couple of years that there is so much more to life than THINGS.

So I’m giving some things away. Membership to my program to be exact. For those of you in the know, (and if you aren’t you are now) you’ll know that I’m building out a fitness studio. But I don’t want it to be just any fitness studio.

It’s gonna be the General Fitness Company and it’s going to approach fitness in a whole new way. I’m taking my business degree (MBA) and my previous stint in the psychology field and I’m combining them to create the ultimate program for success.

And I’m offering it to you for free. Well actually, I’m giving you entrance into it for free ($440 value) I’ve been training people for over a decade with fitness and I think it’s time to add more because you have asked for more. And I’m one of the few personal trainers that you know that has a psychology and business degree, so ummm…it’s like a no brainer to start a program like this.

If you want in on the $440 jumpstart, just click the link below and type in “thanks for 730” in the comment section and I’ll get in contact with you to get started as soon as I can.

Here’s that link: 2 year celebration

Jerry “thanks again” Washington

P.S. This has been my brain child for a long time. Because I’ve felt the need for it myself. I’ve been there where I’ve had a ton of money and I blew it all just trying to find happiness and in the process, I also blew a lot of people out of my life. I know why that happened and for the most part, it’s because we’ve been fed misinformation so that companies could get richer. That’s not my goal, I just want something to leave behind that my children can say that “daddy made a difference” So if you would like to help me with that (and help yourself in the process), click the link above to get started.
