I Don’t Think I Can

I was coming back from State College this weekend and I got hungry along the way. A hamburger and a cup of ice for my water are all I really wanted, but the guy at the counter said to me that he couldn’t do it.

He said to me, “I don’t think I can sir.” Tired and hungry I thought to myself, how much this young man reminded me of a lot of people in this world.

Many people look at the tools they have in front of them and make decisions like they are on autopilot most of the time. To me, it seems like “I don’t think I can” really means “I don’t think I am.”

It’s sad really, but it’s amazing what can happen when you give people a little confidence.

I smiled at the kid and told him “Yes, you can.” I think I did it in such a polite way that it gave him the confidence to think that he could make it happen and he felt empowered.

I walked out with my hamburger AND my cup of ice.

The more of the story is that you are powerful and can do just about anything (within reason). You just have to believe and put forth action.

P.S. Nothing for you today. Just go out there and kick some ass. Because “Yes, you can.” Talk soon…
