Competitive: To Be Or NOT To Be

Hands down, the answer to this question is absolutely unanimous. I mean seriously you’re reading this RIGHT NOW because of the fact that competition exists. The whole basis of human creation is based on the males (and their man juice) to be competitive when courting a lady. Not to mention the actual act of conception where the aforementioned man juice fights to be the one to relocate and well, the rest is history.

So why do people avoid competition? Why are so many people afraid of bumping heads with someone? To tell you the truth, social norms have led us to stop pushing each other in lieu of cooperation. Which, in itself, is not a bad thing, but often times what happens is that one side tends to slack off or in some cases, take advantage.

We can all recall a time when you were working with someone and all of a sudden they weren’t pulling their own weight. They would make excuses for poor performance or simply settle for a mediocre result. If you can’t think of a time, then you might be that other person.

I digress…

What I’m saying here is that although fighting is not always necessarily good, competition is something that we all experience in everyday life. Don’t fool yourself, every single one of use NEEDS TO be competitive in some way or another. There are limited resources, but if we compete, (rather than fight) the likelihood that we will innovate is inevitable.

So those of you that think we don’t need to be competitive. I think you need to wake up because the world around you is a very competitive world. The best thing to do is to put your big boy/girl clothes on and compete. Because honestly, briznit, no one can exist without competition, even if it’s only competing against herself.

P.S. I just want to make something clear, I’m not advocating fighting. That’s something completely different. Even so, a good-natured debate or a test of wit and skill in something physical is not out of bounds. All I’m getting at here is that you should never allow yourself to live the status quo your whole life. Yes, there are times when it’s useful but for the most part, I think it is important to navigate where you need to diverge from the path and carve your own trail. Talk soon…
